ATLANTA, Georgia— A winter storm forecast to bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain to the Atlanta area on Friday, January 10, has led to widespread disruptions, including the postponement and cancellation of multiple concerts. Gov. Brian Kemp declared a statewide State of Emergency earlier today, citing hazardous travel conditions and the potential for power outages.
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) has postponed its Friday evening performance of The Four Seasons to Tuesday, March 11, at 8 p.m. Tickets for the original date will be honored automatically, and attendees unable to make the new date can review options at aso.org/weather-update or contact Guest Services. While ASO’s Sunday matinee remains scheduled, organizers are closely monitoring the weather.
Additionally, the ASO’s Saturday performance of The Four Seasons at Spivey Hall has been canceled due to the closure of Clayton State University’s campus. Spivey Hall’s box office will remain closed on Friday, with ticket holders being contacted directly for updates. On Thursday afternoon, Spivey Hall posted the following on X:
Emory Chamber Music Society and Concerts@First
The Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta (ECMSA) and Concerts@First have canceled their co-presented Bach’s Lunch concert, originally scheduled for noon on Friday at First Presbyterian Church, citing safety concerns amid the approaching winter storm. The program was set to feature violist Joseph Skerik, the newest member of the Vega String Quartet. Both organizations have announced efforts to reschedule the performance at a later date.
Weather Forecast
The National Weather Service predicts a significant winter storm beginning early Friday, with a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain expected to impact travel throughout the day. Up to 2 inches of snow and ice accumulations are possible in the Atlanta metro area, with higher totals in northern Georgia. Ice accumulation of up to 0.3 inches may result in downed trees and power lines.
Temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing through Saturday evening, likely keeping roadways hazardous. The Georgia Department of Transportation has begun pre-treating roads, but residents are urged to limit travel.
Statewide Preparations
Gov. Brian Kemp’s State of Emergency authorizes the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) to mobilize resources, including state operations centers and road crews. Residents are encouraged to prepare emergency supplies, monitor local weather updates, and exercise caution.
Looking Ahead
As conditions evolve, concert organizers across the region may adjust additional performances. Attendees should check directly with venues or ticket providers for the latest updates.
