NEW YORK, New York— New Music USA has announced the recipients of its 2024 Organization Fund grants, awarding a total of $613,500 to 85 organizations across 17 states. The grants, which support a wide range of music-related activities, aim to sustain programming, nurture music creators, and provide vital resources to communities nationwide.

This year’s grant cycle saw 702 applications, with organizations able to apply for funding in one of three categories: General Operating Support, Creation of New Work, or Live Music for Dance projects. Of the awarded grants, 61% went to organizations seeking general operating support, 17% to those focused on creating new works, and 22% to live music for dance initiatives.

The diverse group of awardees includes music organizations, performance groups, dance organizations, festivals, and venues, reflecting New Music USA’s commitment to expanding its national reach. The selected organizations have demonstrated a significant and ongoing impact within their communities.

Scott Winship, Director of Grantmaking Programs at New Music USA, expressed pride in the organization’s ability to support a wide range of music creators and their work. “It’s an honor to witness the impactful work of organizations across the musical spectrum, and we are deeply inspired by the work of all the awardees and applicants,” Winship said. “The quality of this year’s applicants was extraordinarily high, and we regret that we were not able to support more of the incredible organizations that applied.”

Recipients of the grants include well-known entities such as the American Composers Orchestra in New York, the International Contemporary Ensemble in Brooklyn, and Conspirare in Austin, TX. The grantees work in various genres and formats, contributing to the vibrant landscape of new music nationwide.

Erin Roy, Executive Director of David Dorfman Dance, one of the grant recipients, highlighted the significance of the support, particularly as touring costs rise. “Our grant from New Music USA will go far in supporting the composing costs of our newest project and allow us to move forward confidently into the next one with continued commitment to supporting our musicians,” Roy said.

Conspirare, a choral ensemble based in Austin, TX, also expressed gratitude for the grant, which will support the commission of a new work by transcultural composer Derrick Skye. “This is an important opportunity to add an extended length choral work to the repertoire,” the organization said in a statement.

A range of donors, including foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individual contributors, support The New Music Organization Fund. Major funders include the Mellon Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Howard Gilman Foundation. The program is part of New Music USA’s broader mission to advance new music and support a vibrant, inclusive community for artists and audiences alike.

the announcement of New Music USA’s 2024 Organization Grants comes on the heels of the organization’s Creator Fund Awards, announced in June.
