PRPVO, Utah— The Barlow Endowment for Music Composition at Brigham Young University has announced the recipients of its 2024 commissions. Canadian-American composer Karim Al-Zand was awarded the $15,000 Barlow Prize to compose a major new work for organ. His music, praised for its striking beauty, draws inspiration from various sources, including world folk traditions, myths, and his Middle Eastern heritage. Al-Zand is also a founding member of Musiqa, a contemporary music group based in Houston.
